After months of planning, organizing and preparing, we finally had the outreach and construction of the maternity ward in Selei village! A total of 25 volunteers joined us from USA , Germany, Australia and Austria for 9 days. For the medical outreach we were joined by “Medical Santo”, “Sanma Provincial Health, and volunteers from USA and Australia. The medical team consisted of two receptionists, four nurses, one doctor, a nurse practitioner and a dentist. Together ,we were able to provide medical help to over 250 patients. Some of the patients walked over 10 hours to Selei and many came from unreached villages. Our team was able to diagnose, treat, and prescribe medications.
The main medical concerns were diabetes, hypertension, respiratory infections, viral and bacterial skin infections, pregnancies and a lot of muscle and back pain. The patients with dental concerns would also see the dentist. Once the patients were checked out, they were then invited to the prayer tent, where missionaries prayed for them and shared the Gospel with those who were interested.
